Where the research points

Summary of studies, not a recommendation

Consider Wegovy if…

  • you want an FDA-approved product: Wegovy (semaglutide) is labelled to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term in adults with obesity, or with overweight plus a weight-related condition[10]
  • you want the label that includes liver disease: Wegovy has an accelerated-approval indication for MASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis in adults[10]
  • you want the higher-dose weight product: Wegovy's maintenance dosage in adults is 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg (recommended) injected once weekly[10]

Consider Ozempic if…

  • you want the diabetes-labelled product: Ozempic is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes[5]
  • you want the label with a kidney indication: Ozempic is indicated to reduce sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease and cardiovascular death in type 2 diabetes with chronic kidney disease[5]
  • you want the diabetes dosing range: Ozempic's maximum recommended dosage is 2 mg once weekly[5]

What they have in common

  • Wegovy is also semaglutide: the label title reads WEGOVY (semaglutide) injection[10]
  • Ozempic is semaglutide: the label title reads OZEMPIC (semaglutide) injection[5]
