Are Peptides Legal? Where Each One Stands in 2026

It depends on the peptide. A few are FDA-approved prescription drugs. Some were taken off the FDA's safety-risk list this year, and an advisory committee backed six for compounding. Most are still unapproved.

What a PCAC vote means

The Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) advises the FDA on which bulk drug substances pharmacies may compound. On 23–24 July 2026 it voted to recommend six peptides for the 503A bulks list: BPC-157, TB-500 and KPV (8–6 each), Semax (8–5), MOTS-c and Epitalon (7–5 each). It did not recommend DSIP.

The committee only advises. A peptide becomes legal to compound under 503A after the FDA adds it to the list through rulemaking, and the FDA has no deadline to act. None of the July 2026 votes has been finalized yet.
