Compounding and research-use sellers

  • Category 2 is the FDA's list of bulk substances it flagged as raising significant safety concerns. Compounding pharmacies are not expected to compound from them while they are on it.
  • The Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) advises the FDA on which substances belong on the 503A bulks list that pharmacies may compound from. Its votes are advice; the FDA decides.
  • "Research use only" products are sold outside these rules and are not checked by the FDA for identity, purity or dose.

Sport and drug testing

Not on the WADA Prohibited List

Dual GLP-1/glucagon agonists are not named on the 2026 list. Mazdutide has been approved in China, so the S0 catch-all (drugs with no approval by any health authority) should not apply.

Outside the US

Rules differ by country. What each regulator's own records show, with the date we checked:

What four regulators' records return

The Drugs@FDA lookup for mazdutide returned a not-found error, so no FDA-approved product appears.[2]

The UK emc compendium search for mazdutide returned no results.[3]

Health Canada's database returned zero active-ingredient records for mazdutide.[4]

The Australian ARTG search for mazdutide found no matching results.[5]

FDA enforcement

An FDA warning letter lists mazdutide among products offered for sale in the United States that the agency treats as unapproved new drugs.[9]

A second warning letter lists mazdutide among the products it names; that letter applies the same unapproved-new-drug wording.[10]

Sport

The WADA list's S0 class covers unapproved substances; mazdutide is not named on the list itself, so whether S0 applies depends on approval status.[1]

Common questions

Is mazdutide FDA approved?

No: the Drugs@FDA lookup returned no match.[2]

Is Mazdutide legal to buy?

It is not an approved drug. Online sellers label it "for research use only, not for human use"; the FDA sent warning letters to five such sellers on 24 Aug 2026. Whether a pharmacy may compound it depends on its FDA bulk-substance status. Rules differ by country.

Is Mazdutide banned by WADA?

No. Dual GLP-1/glucagon agonists are not named on the 2026 list. Mazdutide has been approved in China, so the S0 catch-all (drugs with no approval by any health authority) should not apply.
