Studies that gave Selank nasal spray
Each row is a study whose stated route matches. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results.
| Study | Design | n | Dose | First outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eksperimental'naia i klinicheskaia farmakologiia 2016, PMID 29787664 | Animal · mouse (not a human result) | Not stated | 300 μg/kg/day | Anxiolytic and nootropic effect by route: Both intranasal and intraperitoneal selank worked only in the more anxious BALB/c strain. |
| Zhurnal evoliutsionnoi biokhimii i fiziologii 2008, PMID 18727417 | Animal · monkey (not a human result) | Not stated | Not stated | Fear and aggression: Intranasal selank produced long-term behavioural improvement in neurotic monkeys, including elimination of fear and aggression. |
| Bioorganicheskaia khimiia 2006, PMID 16637290 | Animal · rat (in vivo and in vitro blood plasma) (not a human result) | Not stated | Not stated | Biodegradation products: Selank is broken down mainly into the pentapeptide TKPRP, tripeptide TKP and dipeptides RP and GP. |

Studies that used the intranasal route
In monkeys with induced neurosis, intranasal selank was reported to eliminate fear and aggression and to raise orientational-explorative activity over the long term.[2]
Mice received selank at 300 μg/kg/day for 5 days either intranasally or intraperitoneally and were tested on the elevated plus maze.[1]
By the nasal route selank raised [G-(3)H]MK-801 binding sites by 23% with no effect on GABA receptors; this is mouse brain data.[1]
By the intraperitoneal route selank instead raised GABA-receptor binding sites in the frontal cortex by 38% without changing NMDA binding in the hippocampus; this is mouse brain data.[1]
A tritium-labelling study followed intranasally administered selank into brain tissue in animals and identified the breakdown products TKPRP, TKP, RP and GP.[3]
Absorption versus injection, and the human gap
None of the 4 cached human selank abstracts mentions a nasal route, so the number of human studies of intranasal selank in the sources is 0.
Calculated from abstracts checked 18454096, 26356395, 25176261, 18577961; term nasal; abstracts mentioning nasal 0. Formula: count of abstracts mentioning the term = 0
No bioavailability or plasma concentration value for nasal selank appears in the cached abstracts; the pharmacokinetic work reports degradation products only.
Calculated from abstracts with nasal bioavailability value 0; pharmacokinetic abstract 16637290. Formula: count = 0
Safety by route
The only safety wording on selank in the cached mechanism paper is that it does not cause side effects typical of most anxiolytics, with no route-specific adverse-event data.[4]
Common questions
Is there an FDA-approved nasal spray form of Selank?
We found no FDA-approved nasal spray product for Selank in our evidence file. Products sold as nasal spray forms are not checked by the FDA.
Have studies given Selank as a nasal spray form?
3 studies in our evidence file gave Selank by a nasal spray route: 0 in people and 3 in animals.
Does selank nasal spray work?
In mice, nasal and intraperitoneal selank both showed anxiolytic and nootropic efficiency, but only in BALB/c mice; no human nasal trial is cached.[1]
