Short answer

In patients with generalized anxiety disorder and neurasthenia, selank and medazepam had similar anxiolytic effects.[1]

In 60 patients with phobic-anxiety and somatoform disorders, pronounced anxiolytic and mild nootropic effects were reported, lasting a week after the last dose.[2]

How strong the evidence is

The human trials found compared selank with other drugs (medazepam, phenazepam), so they do not show how it compares with a placebo.[2]

Adding selank to phenazepam let the benzodiazepine's effect appear earlier on the Hamilton depression scale.[3]

In mice, an anxiolytic effect appeared only in the BALB/c strain, which has initially low exploratory activity, so animal results were not uniform.[4]
