Evidence for weight loss

Each row is an outcome related to weight loss from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.

How strong is it?

Strongest evidence:Human RCT evidence, 4 of 4JAMA 2026, PMID 42251595

A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.

The goal in plain terms

MedlinePlus defines obesity as a disease that means having too much body fat.[10]

Body-weight results by trial

In the phase 2 trial, week-24 body weight changed -6.7% with 3 mg, -10.4% with 4.5 mg and -11.3% with 6 mg of mazdutide, against 1.0% with placebo.[7]

In the phase 3 GLORY-1 trial, week-48 body weight changed -11.00% at the lower dose and -14.01% at the higher dose against 0.30% with placebo.[5]

In the higher-dose phase 3 trial, 84.3% of participants on mazdutide lost 5% or more of body weight at week 60, against 33.1% on placebo.[1]

A phase 1b study reported week-12 weight changes of -4.81%, -6.40% and -6.05% in each of the cohorts against 0.60% with placebo.[8]

Registered weight measures

The registry record for the GLORY-1 trial lists percent change from baseline in body weight as a measure.[11]

The diabetes trial NCT05606913 registered a composite of HbA1c under 7.0% and weight loss of at least 5% from baseline.[12]

Common questions

Does Mazdutide help with weight loss?

The strongest study we summarise for weight loss is human rct evidence, across 9 studies with an outcome for weight loss. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.

Is Mazdutide approved for weight loss?

No. Mazdutide is not FDA approved for any use, including weight loss.

What is the best peptide for weight loss?

There is no single answer. Our weight loss overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.

How much weight can you lose on mazdutide?

The trials report group averages, which differ by dose and by trial; the higher-dose phase 3 trial averaged -16.65% at week 60.[1]
