MOTS-c for Metabolism: What the Evidence Shows
What human and animal studies show about MOTS-c for metabolism, how strong that evidence is, and what is still unproven.

Evidence for metabolism
None of the study abstracts we summarised for MOTS-c reported an outcome for metabolism (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026). Claims that it helps with metabolism are unproven.
How strong is it?
A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.
What metabolism means in the MOTS-c context
MedlinePlus defines metabolic syndrome as a group of risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and other problems, diagnosed when at least three are present.[7]
How many MOTS-c papers mention metabolism
A PubMed title-and-abstract search pairing MOTS-c terms with metabolism terms returned 45 records on 2026-10-29. That is a keyword-match tally for MOTS-c and metabolism, not a count of positive findings.
Calculated from pubmed query ("MOTS-c"[tiab] OR MOTSc[tiab]) AND ("energy expenditure"[tiab] OR "metabolic rate"[tiab] OR "metabolic syndrome"[tiab] OR "insulin sensitivity"[tiab] OR "lipid metabolism"[tiab] OR "glucose metabolism"[tiab] OR "fat oxidation"[tiab] OR lipolysis[tiab] OR thermogen*[tiab] OR "metabolic health"[tiab]); date 2026-10-29; count 45. Formula: record count of the PubMed [tiab] query on the date shown, as logged by the literature ledger; no arithmetic
What the retrieved MOTS-c abstracts say about metabolism
In mice whose ovaries were removed, MOTS-c treatment increased brown fat activation and reduced fat accumulation and inflammation in white fat; this is an animal model of metabolic change after ovary removal.[8]
In mice exposed to cold, MOTS-c promoted cold adaptation through increased fat-tissue heat production; this is mouse work.[9]
A review of mitochondria-derived peptides notes that both humanin and MOTS-c improve insulin sensitivity in mouse models of type 2 diabetes.[10]
The same review also records a cell report in which MOTS-c and humanin worsened the pro-inflammatory secretions of senescent cells, so not every finding points one way.[10]

Does MOTS-c help with metabolism?
None of the studies we summarised for MOTS-c (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026) measured an outcome for metabolism. Treat claims that it helps with metabolism as unproven.
Is MOTS-c approved for metabolism?
No. MOTS-c is not FDA approved for any use, including metabolism.
What is the best peptide for metabolism?
There is no single answer. Our metabolism overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.
Is there research on MOTS-c and metabolism?
PubMed held 45 records matching the MOTS-c and metabolism search terms when checked on 2026-10-29; a match is not evidence that MOTS-c helps with metabolism.
