The weight-loss claim: rats and mice only

The headline weight claim traces to obese Zucker rats given oral AOD9604 for 19 days, where weight gain fell by over half against control animals. This is rat data, not a result in people.[4]

A second animal result, in obese mice treated through mini-osmotic pumps, found less body weight gain than controls. These are mouse findings and say nothing yet about humans.[2]

The mouse fat-mass claim comes from a 14-day injection study in obese mice, which reported lower body weight and body fat. Again, mice only.[3]

The fat-burning claim, as far as studies went

The 'burns fat' claim rests on obese-mouse work reporting more fat oxidation and lipolysis, and the same abstract says the peptide does not act through the growth hormone receptor. Mouse evidence only.[2]

In the oral rat study, fat tissue taken from the treated animals showed more lipolytic activity than tissue from the controls.[4]

The cartilage and joint claim

Joint-repair claims come from one rabbit knee study with collagenase-induced osteoarthritis, where the authors concluded the injections enhanced cartilage regeneration. It is animal work and cannot be read as a human cartilage result.[1]

What no study shows

A dated PubMed search of AOD-9604 names on 2 October 2026 returned 22 records, and none of them was a human efficacy trial, so the human version of every claim above has no trial behind it on this site.

Calculated from evidence file web/src/data/evidence/aod-9604.json; query AOD9604[tiab] OR "AOD-9604"[tiab] OR "AOD 9604"[tiab]; date 2026-10-02; records 22; human efficacy trials 0. Formula: records returned by the search = 22; human efficacy trials among them = 0

A second PubMed query on 11 October 2026 combining AOD-9604 with adverse-event and safety terms returned 6 records, none reporting adverse events seen in people given the peptide.

Calculated from evidence file web/src/data/evidence/aod-9604.json; date 2026-10-11; records 6; reporting adverse events in people 0. Formula: records returned = 6; reports of human adverse events among them = 0

Common questions

Is AOD-9604 proven to work?

The strongest study we summarise for AOD-9604 is animal evidence, among 4 studies. That is not proof it works in people.

What does AOD-9604 do?

The studies cited here are all in animals: they report less weight gain in obese rats and mice, more lipolysis, and in rabbits better knee cartilage scores; no human result is cited.

Calculated from animal studies cited 4; human studies cited 0. Formula: 4 cited studies (rat, mouse, mouse, rabbit); human studies = 0

Does AOD-9604 work for weight loss in people?

The oral rat study reports its authors' reading that the analogue may have potential as a therapeutic agent for obesity, which is a statement about development, not a demonstrated effect in people.[4]
