Which receptor AOD-9604 does and does not use
In cell assays and obese-mouse work, AOD9604 did not compete for the growth hormone receptor and did not drive cell proliferation the way growth hormone did.[3]
In beta-3 adrenergic receptor knockout mice the weight and lipolysis effects of long-term treatment did not appear, which points to that receptor pathway being involved in mice.[4]
What it changed in mouse and rat fat tissue
In obese mice, treatment raised the expression of beta-3 adrenergic receptor RNA, the main lipolytic receptor of fat cells, back toward lean-mouse levels.[4]
The authors of that mouse paper concluded the lipolytic effects are not mediated directly through the beta-3 receptor even though expression rose, so the exact route is left open.[4]
A rat clamp study found no adverse change in insulin sensitivity with AOD9604, unlike intact growth hormone.[5]
What is still unknown in people
No label exists for this peptide: the Drugs@FDA lookup for AOD-9604 returned no match on 2 October 2026, so there is no regulator-written Mechanism of Action section to quote.
Calculated from source s2-legal/api.fda.gov/drugsfda-aod-9604.txt; date 2026-10-02; matches 0; label moa sections 0. Formula: Drugs@FDA matches = 0, so label mechanism sections = 0
Every mechanism statement on this page comes from the 3 animal and cell papers listed, and the evidence file records no human pharmacokinetic or mechanism study with numbers.
Calculated from mechanism abstracts 3; species rat, mouse, cell assay; human mechanism studies 0. Formula: mechanism sources = 3, all non-human; human mechanism studies = 0

Common questions
How long does AOD-9604 act in the body?
We found no published half-life for AOD-9604 (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026), so how long it acts is unknown.
Does AOD-9604 work like growth hormone?
In the mouse paper the fragment reduced weight gain like growth hormone but did not bind the growth hormone receptor.[3]
What is the mechanism of AOD-9604 lipolysis?
Mouse work links the lipolytic effect to the beta-3 adrenergic pathway, but the authors say the action is not mediated directly through that receptor.[4]
