Claimed benefits and what studies show
Each row is an area where people claim a benefit, with the strongest study we summarise behind it. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.

What the studies measured
| Outcome | Result | Study type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huntington-like deficits | Dihexa (PNB-0408) did not protect rats from 3-NP-induced motor and cognitive deficits. | Animal · rat (not a human result)n = 40 | Journal of Huntington's disease 2024, PMID 38489193 |
| Spatial learning | Dihexa restored spatial learning and cognitive function in the Morris water maze in a transgenic Alzheimer mouse model. | Animal · mouse (not a human result) | Brain sciences 2021, PMID 34827486 |
| Neuroinflammation | Dihexa reduced glial activation and pro-inflammatory cytokines and raised IL-10 in the mouse brain. | Animal · mouse (not a human result) | Brain sciences 2021, PMID 34827486 |
| Limb motor recovery | Motor function improved at 8-16 weeks with MSC plus dihexa (and MSC plus G-CSF) given into muscle; dihexa alone was not singled out. | Animal · rat (not a human result) | Annals of medicine and surgery 2021, PMID 34703584 |
| Hair cell protection | 1 μM dihexa gave optimal protection of hair cells against neomycin or gentamicin. | Animal · zebrafish larva (not a human result) | Frontiers in cellular neuroscience 2015, PMID 25674052 |
| Antidementia activity (scopolamine and aged rats) | Dihexa, an orally active blood-brain-barrier-permeant analog, showed antidementia activity in scopolamine and aged rat models and marked synaptogenic activity. | Animal · rat (not a human result) | The Journal of pharmacology and experimental therapeutics 2013, PMID 23055539 |
The memory and cognition claim
Claim: dihexa improves memory. The evidence is from rats and mice. In aged rats and in a scopolamine memory-deficit model, an early paper reports antidementia activity and synapse formation.[5]
In a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (APP/PS1), dihexa restored spatial learning in the Morris water maze test. This is mouse data only.[2]
A rat study of Huntington's-like symptoms found the opposite: the compound did not protect rats from the deficits caused by the toxin.[1]
Inflammation
Claim: it reduces inflammation. In the mouse Alzheimer's model, dihexa lowered the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α and raised IL-10.[2]
Nerve injury and hearing
Claim: it helps nerves recover after injury. In rats with a cut sciatic nerve, the abstract reports better motor function from week 8 to 16 when stem cells were combined with dihexa given into the muscle.[3]
Claim: it protects hearing. In zebrafish larvae, a dihexa concentration of 1 μM gave optimal protection of hair cells from two antibiotics. No mammal or human data are cited.[4]
Where human evidence is missing
FDA's compounding-risk notice says it has found no human exposure data on drug products containing dihexa acetate by any route, and does not know if it would cause harm.[10]

Common questions
Is Dihexa proven to work?
The strongest study we summarise for Dihexa is animal evidence, among 5 studies. That is not proof it works in people.
What does dihexa do?
Published work describes it as an orally active, blood-brain-barrier permeant analogue of angiotensin IV, studied in rodents for antidementia activity.[5]
