Short answer
In a placebo-controlled trial in men with erectile dysfunction, PT-141 produced a statistically significant erectile response, with the first erection starting around 30 minutes after dosing.[1]
In men whose erectile dysfunction did not respond to sildenafil, 33.5% had a positive clinical response on bremelanotide versus 8.5% on placebo.[2]
Limits and safety
Flushing and nausea were the most common adverse events across these early studies in men.[1]
In the sildenafil-failure trial, drug-related adverse effects were more frequent with bremelanotide than with placebo.[2]
The only approved bremelanotide product states it is not indicated in men, so these trials did not lead to a male indication.[3]
