Evidence for heart health
Each row is an outcome related to heart health from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.
| Outcome | Result | Study type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atherogenic lipoproteins | Non-HDL cholesterol fell by up to -21.0% (Study 1) and -26.9% (Study 2); apolipoprotein B by -21.4% and -24.2%. | Human controlled trial | Diabetes, obesity & metabolism 2026, PMID 42608321 |
| Inflammatory markers | High-sensitivity C-reactive protein fell by -54.8% and interleukin-6 by -29.6% in Study 2 but not Study 1. | Human controlled trial | Diabetes, obesity & metabolism 2026, PMID 42608321 |
| ANGPTL3/8 and lipids | Retatrutide-induced reductions in the ANGPTL3/8 complex paralleled reductions in triglycerides and LDL-C. | Human controlled trial | Diabetes, obesity & metabolism 2025, PMID 40726454 |
| Systolic blood pressure | Systolic blood pressure fell by a weighted mean difference of -6.79 mmHg (95% CI -8.36 to -5.23). | Meta-analysis | High blood pressure & cardiovascular prevention 2026, PMID 42371360 |
| Diastolic blood pressure | Diastolic blood pressure fell by a weighted mean difference of -2.46 mmHg (95% CI -3.25 to -1.67). | Meta-analysis | High blood pressure & cardiovascular prevention 2026, PMID 42371360 |
| LDL cholesterol | LDL-C fell by a weighted mean difference of -13.10 mg/dL (95% CI -16.10 to -10.10). | Meta-analysis | High blood pressure & cardiovascular prevention 2026, PMID 42371360 |
| Triglycerides | Triglycerides fell by a weighted mean difference of -40.90 mg/dL (95% CI -48.50 to -33.30). | Meta-analysis | High blood pressure & cardiovascular prevention 2026, PMID 42371360 |
| HDL cholesterol | No significant effect on HDL-C (weighted mean difference -0.01 mg/dL). | Meta-analysis | High blood pressure & cardiovascular prevention 2026, PMID 42371360 |

How strong is it?
A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.
Heart disease, and what the retatrutide trials registered
MedlinePlus describes heart disease as a general term for many heart problems, and a type of cardiovascular disease.[7]
MedlinePlus lists arrhythmia as a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat, and a heart attack as part of the heart muscle dying from lost blood flow.[7]
A phase 3 registry entry is titled as retatrutide in participants with obesity and cardiovascular disease.[8]
That cardiovascular-disease trial lists percent change in body weight at week 80 as its primary outcome.[8]
Blood pressure, lipids and inflammatory markers
A meta-analysis of randomised retatrutide trials found lower systolic blood pressure (-6.79 mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure (-2.46 mmHg).[6]
The same meta-analysis found lower LDL-C (-13.10 mg/dL) and triglycerides (-40.90 mg/dL) but no significant change in HDL-C.[6]
Post hoc analyses of two phase 2 trials reported non-HDL cholesterol down by up to 21.0% (Study 1) and 26.9% (Study 2); these are biomarker changes, not heart events.[4]
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein fell 54.8% and interleukin-6 fell 29.6% in the obesity study without diabetes, but not in the diabetes study.[4]
In human hepatocytes grown in the lab, glucagon and retatrutide both lowered ANGPTL3/8 secretion; this is cell data.[5]
Heart rate and low blood pressure signals
The phase 2 obesity trial found heart rate rising with dose, with the increase highest at 24 weeks and lower afterwards.[1]
TRIUMPH-2 reported hypotension in 1% of the 4 mg group, 5% of the 9 mg group and 6% of the 12 mg group, against under 1% on placebo.[9]
How much heart-related research exists
A PubMed search of retatrutide with heart health terms (2026-10-02) found 23 human-only papers and 0 under the animal filter; 1 carried a randomized-trial tag.

Does Retatrutide help with heart health?
The strongest study we summarise for heart health is human rct evidence, across 3 studies with an outcome for heart health. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.
Is Retatrutide approved for heart health?
No. Retatrutide is not FDA approved for any use, including heart health.
What is the best peptide for heart health?
There is no single answer. Our heart health overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.
Is there a retatrutide trial that measures heart attacks?
The registered cardiovascular-disease trial lists body weight change at week 80 as its primary outcome, so heart-attack counts are not what that record measures first.[8]
Can retatrutide cause an arrhythmia or fast heart rate?
The phase 2 obesity trial recorded heart-rate increases that grew with dose, and the abstract does not describe arrhythmia events.[1]
