Studies that gave GHK-Cu topical
Each row is a study whose stated route matches. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results.
| Study | Design | n | Dose | First outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Archives of facial plastic surgery 2006, PMID 16847171 | Human RCT | 13 | Not stated | Erythema resolution: No significant difference between groups in erythema resolution on computer analysis and blinded evaluation. |
| Wound repair and regeneration 1994, PMID 17147644 | Human RCT | Not stated | Not stated | Plantar ulcer closure: Median ulcer area closure was 98.5% with the GHK-copper gel versus 60.8% with vehicle (p < 0.05). |
| Journal of cosmetic and laser therapy 2016, PMID 27064823 | Human case report | 1 | Not stated | Crow's feet wrinkles: In one patient, photographs showed greatly decreased wrinkles around the treated eye after a multi-ingredient cosmetic treatment. |
| Veterinary surgery 2003, PMID 14648529 | Animal · rat (not a human result) | 24 | Not stated | Wound area reduction: By day 13 wound area had decreased by 64.5% with topical tripeptide-copper, 45.6% with vehicle and 28.2% in untreated controls. |

The three human topical reports and what each tested
A small randomized trial put GHK-Cu skin care on CO2 laser-resurfaced skin and compared it against the same regimen without it.[1]
The trial's questionnaire, but not its objective scores, favoured the GHK-Cu group.[1]
A multicenter, placebo-controlled study tested a metered daily gel on diabetic foot ulcers after debridement.[2]
A single-patient report paired a copper-GHK cosmetic mixture with a micro-droplet resurfacing device once a week over a treatment course, and noted no adverse effect.[3]
Whether the peptide reaches its target through skin
A review of topical GHK says information on skin permeability and effectiveness of the GHK-Cu form is insufficient.[5]
The same review reports that complexing with metal raises permeability.[5]
A systematic review says microneedle delivery has raised skin uptake in lab and pig-skin models but has not reached a registered, adequately powered human trial.[6]
Animal topical data
In rats with ischemic open wounds, topical gel-treated wounds had lower TNF-alpha and matrix metalloproteinase concentrations than untreated wounds.[4]
Common questions
Is there an FDA-approved topical form of GHK-Cu?
We found no FDA-approved topical product for GHK-Cu in our evidence file. Products sold as topical forms are not checked by the FDA.
Have studies given GHK-Cu as a topical form?
4 studies in our evidence file gave GHK-Cu by a topical route: 3 in people and 1 in animals.
Does a copper peptide serum work on wrinkles?
In the one randomized trial in this evidence, all participants improved after laser resurfacing, with or without the copper peptide.[1]
