The skin and wrinkle claim: one small randomized trial missed its objective endpoints
In a small randomized trial after CO2 laser resurfacing, objective measures found no gain from GHK-Cu skin care, though patients were more satisfied.[1]
The same trial found no statistically significant difference in how fast redness resolved.[1]
A published case report describes a single man treated weekly with a mixed cosmetic solution that contained copper-GHK among four other ingredients, so the result cannot be attributed to GHK-Cu alone.[5]
A review of topical GHK notes that the clinical studies one would expect behind anti-wrinkle products are largely missing.[7]
The wound-healing claim: a 1994 diabetic ulcer trial plus rodent work
In a placebo-controlled trial of diabetic neuropathic foot ulcers, the GHK-copper gel arm had higher median closure than vehicle.[2]
The same trial reported fewer ulcer infections with the gel when it was started immediately after debridement.[2]
In rats with ischemic skin wounds, the gel group's wounds had shrunk more by day 13 than vehicle or untreated wounds.[13]
In mice with scald wounds, a liposome form of the complex shortened healing time to 14 days after injury.[10]
Hair, joint, lung and gut claims
The human hair data come from an uncontrolled pilot of scalp injections of a mixture of six ingredients, and GHK-Cu was only one of them.[3]
That single-arm pilot reported less hair fall on a pull test in most of its patients, with no GHK-Cu-only comparison.[3]
The joint-type claim is represented by a rat knee-ligament reconstruction study in which the benefit faded after the injections stopped.[12]
The anti-inflammatory claim rests on mouse lung-injury work in which the complex lowered inflammatory signals.[11]
The gut claim rests on a mouse model of ulcerative colitis, not on people.[8]
How thin the human literature is
A systematic review of the GHK-Cu literature calls the human literature thin and mostly small cosmetic-cream trials.[6]
A PubMed title/abstract search on 2 Oct 2026 for GHK-Cu terms combined with randomized, clinical trial or split-face returned 8 records, against 431 for the peptide overall.
Calculated from search GHK-Cu terms AND (randomized[tiab] OR clinical trial[pt] OR split-face[tiab]); date 2026-10-02; count 8; total peptide records 431; source web/src/data/evidence/ghk-cu.json searches. Formula: share = count / totalPeptideRecords = 8 / 431

Common questions
Is GHK-Cu proven to work?
The strongest study we summarise for GHK-Cu is human rct evidence, among 15 studies. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.
What does GHK-Cu do?
A review describes it as a naturally occurring human tripeptide whose copper-bound form has decades of laboratory evidence for tissue regeneration.[6]
Do copper peptides actually work for anti-aging?
The skin-care trial in this cache found patients more satisfied but objective wrinkle measures unchanged.[1]
