How much water to add
Bacteriostatic water only changes the concentration, not the amount of Semaglutide in the vial. More water means more units per dose (easier to read), less water means fewer.
| Water added | Concentration | 10 units contain | 1 mg is | Whole vial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mL | 2 mg/mL | 0.2 mg | 50 u | 100 u |
| 2 mL | 1 mg/mL | 0.1 mg | 100 u | 200 u |

Dosing table for a 2 mg vial
Syringe units (U-100) for each dose, by how much bacteriostatic water you add.
| Dose | 1 mL water | 2 mL water | 2.5 mL water | 3 mL water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | 12.5 | 25 | 31.25 | 37.5 |
| 0.5 mg | 25 | 50 | 62.5 | 75 |
| 1 mg | 50 | 100 | 125 | 150 |

| 2 mg | 100 | 200 | 250 | 300 |
How the math works
Concentration is the vial's milligrams divided by the water you add. Volume to draw is your dose divided by that concentration. On a U-100 syringe, 1 mL is 100 units, so units = mL × 100.
1 mg ÷ 1 mg/mL = 1 mL
1 mL × 100 = 100 units
Where the doses for a semaglutide vial of 2 mg come from
Ozempic label states: It contains 2 mg of semaglutide, and you can select doses of 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg.[3]
Ozempic label states: Combination with metformin or metformin with sulfonylurea In a 40-week, double-blind trial (NCT03989232), 961 patients with type 2 diabetes currently treated with metformin with or without sulfonylurea treatment were randomized to OZEMPIC 2 mg or OZEMPIC 1 mg once weekly.[3]
What a semaglutide vial of 2 mg gives
2 mg semaglutide vial (dose -> supply -> units at 1 / 2 / 3 mL of water): 0.2 mg -> 10 doses = 10 weeks -> 10 / 20 / 30 units; 0.25 mg -> 8 doses = 8 weeks -> 12.5 / 25 / 37.5 units; 0.5 mg -> 4 doses = 4 weeks -> 25 / 50 / 75 units; 1 mg -> 2 doses = 2 weeks -> 50 / 100 / 150 (over one 1 mL syringe) units; 1.7 mg -> 1 dose = 1 weeks, 0.3 mg left -> 85 / 170 (over one 1 mL syringe) / 255 (over one 1 mL syringe) units.
Calculated from vial mg 2; doses mg 0.2, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.7; dose sources quoted trial and label doses on this page or in the cached semaglutide sources; water mL 1, 2, 3; u100 units per mL 100; injections per week 1. Formula: full doses = floor(vialMg / doseMg); units = doseMg / (vialMg / waterMl) x 100; flag units < 5 or > 100
A 2 mg vial reconstituted in 1 / 2 / 3 mL gives 2 mg/mL, 1 mg/mL and 0.667 mg/mL.
Calculated from vial mg 2; water mL 1, 2, 3. Formula: mg/mL = vialMg / waterMl
Is 2 mg a labelled semaglutide strength
Against the labelled injectable pen totals, a 2 mg vial compares as follows: 2 mg is equal to a 2 mg vial, 4 mg is larger than a 2 mg vial, 8 mg is larger than a 2 mg vial, 9.6 mg is larger than a 2 mg vial.
Calculated from vial mg 2; labelled pen totals mg 2, 4, 8, 9.6. Formula: compare vialMg with each labelled pen total
No label cached for this page lists a 2 mg single-vial product; the cached Ozempic and Wegovy labels describe pens and prefilled syringes only.
Calculated from vial mg 2; labels checked Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets. Formula: search of the three cached labels for a 2 mg vial strength: none
Common questions
How much water goes in a 2 mg vial of Semaglutide?
That choice only changes the concentration. With 2 mL, a 2 mg vial is 1 mg/mL; with 1 mL it is 2 mg/mL. Less water means fewer units per dose and harder-to-read marks for small doses.
How many units is 1 mg from a 2 mg vial?
With 2 mL of water, 1 mg is 100 units on a U-100 syringe. With other water amounts, see the table.
How many doses are in a 2 mg vial?
Divide the vial size by the dose (in the same unit). The calculator on this page shows the number of whole doses for any dose you pick.
How many micrograms are in one unit of a 2 mg semaglutide vial?
In a 2 mg semaglutide vial, one U-100 unit holds 20 mcg at 1 mL, 10 mcg at 2 mL and 6.67 mcg at 3 mL.
Calculated from vial mg 2; water mL 1, 2, 3. Formula: mcg per unit = vialMg / waterMl x 10
