Evidence for injury recovery

Each row is an outcome related to injury recovery from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.

TB-500 for injury recovery: outcomes in published studies
OutcomeResultStudy typeSource
Wound healingPhase 2 findings suggest a 0.03% dose may accelerate healing, with complete healing within 3 months in about 25% of patients, mainly those with smaller or milder ulcers.Human RCTn = 73Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences 2010, PMID 20536470
Phase 2 wound trialsThe review reports accelerated repair in phase 2 trials of pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers and epidermolysis bullosa wounds.ReviewVitamins and hormones 2016, PMID 27450738
Maximum load to failure (TB-500)Maximum load to failure was higher in both the BPC-157 and TB-500 groups than controls; the difference reached significance only for TB-500 (p < 0.05).Animal · rat (not a human result)n = 32Joint diseases and related surgery 2026, PMID 42542926
Combination vs single agentCombining BPC-157 and TB-500 gave no additional benefit over either alone.Animal · rat (not a human result)n = 32Joint diseases and related surgery 2026, PMID 42542926
Corneal alkali burnThe peptide-containing hydrogel accelerated corneal epithelial regeneration and reduced inflammation in an alkali burn model; this is a formulation study.Animal · human corneal cells in vitro plus an animal alkali burn model (species not stated in abstract) (not a human result)ACS applied materials & interfaces 2025, PMID 41359360
Neurological recovery after strokeNeurological outcome improved significantly at 2 and 12 mg/kg from day 14, extending to day 56.Animal · rat (not a human result)n = 10Journal of the neurological sciences 2014, PMID 25060418
Highest doseThe higher dose (18 mg/kg) did not show significant improvement, so the dose response was not linear.Animal · rat (not a human result)n = 10Journal of the neurological sciences 2014, PMID 25060418
Ligament healingLocal thymosin beta-4 improved ligament healing histologically and mechanically in rats.Animal · rat (not a human result)Regulatory peptides 2013, PMID 23523891

How strong is it?

Strongest evidence:Human RCT evidence, 4 of 4Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences 2010, PMID 20536470

A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.

What counts as an injury here

MedlinePlus describes sports injuries as injuries from play or exercise caused by accidents, poor training or improper gear.[8]

Animal studies on repair

The one study of TB-500 itself used Thirty-two male rats with a transected and repaired Achilles tendon, dosed intraperitoneally at 60 µg/kg/day.[3]

In that rat study, maximum load to failure was higher with TB-500 and with BPC-157 than in controls, reaching significance only for TB-500.[3]

Combining BPC-157 and TB-500 in the rats gave no additional benefit over either agent alone.[3]

In rats with a cut medial collateral ligament, local full-length thymosin beta-4 (not TB-500) in fibrin sealant was assessed histologically and by biomechanical tests at 4 weeks.[6]

In rats with induced stroke, full-length thymosin beta-4 (not TB-500) improved neurological outcome at 2 and 12 mg/kg but not at the 18 mg/kg dose.[5]

The human evidence

The human data are on venous ulcers: a 73-patient phase 2 trial of topical full-length thymosin beta-4 (not TB-500) suggested a 0.03% dose may speed healing.[1]

A review states that full-length thymosin beta-4 (not TB-500) accelerated repair in phase 2 trials of pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers and epidermolysis bullosa wounds. It is a review, not new data.[2]

Size of the literature

The goal-ledger query run 2026-10-02 for healing terms found 52 human-only and 71 animal-only PubMed records mentioning thymosin beta-4 or TB-500; the count shows volume of papers, not benefit.

Common questions

Does TB-500 help with injury recovery?

The strongest study we summarise for injury recovery is human rct evidence, across 7 studies with an outcome for injury recovery. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.

Is TB-500 approved for injury recovery?

No. TB-500 is not FDA approved for any use, including injury recovery.

Does TB-500 help injuries heal?

Only in rats so far for TB-500 itself, in an exploratory tendon study whose authors called the findings preliminary.[3]
