Evidence for skin
Each row is an outcome related to skin from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.
| Outcome | Result | Study type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scalp seborrheic dermatitis | The thymosin beta-4 gel was reported more effective than ketoconazole lotion for scalp seborrheic dermatitis (randomization not stated in abstract). | Human controlled trialn = 71 | Microbial biotechnology 2021, PMID 34318587 |
| Wound healing | Phase 2 findings suggest a 0.03% dose may accelerate healing, with complete healing within 3 months in about 25% of patients, mainly those with smaller or milder ulcers. | Human RCTn = 73 | Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences 2010, PMID 20536470 |
| Phase 2 wound trials | The review reports accelerated repair in phase 2 trials of pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers and epidermolysis bullosa wounds. | Review | Vitamins and hormones 2016, PMID 27450738 |

How strong is it?
A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.
Skin and ageing in plain terms
MedlinePlus lists wrinkles, age spots and dryness among the changes in ageing skin.[4]
Skin studies of thymosin beta-4
The strongest skin data are wound data: a 73-patient phase 2 trial of topical full-length thymosin beta-4 (not TB-500) on venous ulcers, not cosmetic skin outcomes.[2]
In scalp seborrheic dermatitis, flaking and erythema area were the clinical measures used for a recombinant thymosin beta-4 gel (not TB-500).[1]
In genetically modified mice, Tβ4-overexpressing animals had more hair shafts than controls, a mouse genetic finding.[5]
Size of the literature
The goal-ledger query run 2026-10-02 for skin terms found 5 human-only and 10 animal-only PubMed records for thymosin beta-4 or TB-500 terms.

Does TB-500 help with skin?
The strongest study we summarise for skin is human rct evidence, across 3 studies with an outcome for skin. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.
Is TB-500 approved for skin?
No. TB-500 is not FDA approved for any use, including skin.
What is the best peptide for skin?
There is no single answer. Our skin overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.
Is TB-500 good for skin?
No cosmetic skin study is cited; the human skin data are about ulcers and scalp dermatitis with full-length thymosin beta-4.[3]
