Does retatrutide cause diarrhea?
Yes. In the TRIUMPH-2 phase 3 trial, 27%, 34% and 34% of participants on the three retatrutide doses had diarrhoea, against 13% on placebo.
Short answer
Yes. In the TRIUMPH-2 phase 3 trial, 27%, 34% and 34% of participants on the three retatrutide doses had diarrhoea, against 13% on placebo.[1]
The same abstract calls gastrointestinal events the most frequent adverse events and says they were more common on retatrutide than on placebo.[1]
Course and dose pattern
In the phase 3 monotherapy trial in type 2 diabetes, the common gastrointestinal events were generally mild to moderate and subsided over time.[2]
A review of the highest phase 2 doses attributes the extra gastrointestinal events, diarrhoea among them, to rapid dose escalation and a higher starting dose.[3]
In the phase 2 type 2 diabetes registry results, diarrhoea affected 2 of 45 placebo participants and 7 of 46 in the top-dose step-up arm.[4]
EG007 is the diabetes phase 2 arm that began at 2 mg and ended at 12 mg.[4]
Common questions
