The longevity claim

The anti-ageing claim comes mainly from mouse and fruit-fly lifespan studies, where epitalon raised lifespan in the longest-lived animals, not mean life span in mice.[6]

A Drosophila (fruit fly) study found adult lifespan rose 11-16% when epitalon was added to the culture medium only during development.[7]

A review calls the compound geroprotective and neuroendocrine in effect but says it remains uncertain whether its known mechanisms are the only ones.[2]

Tumour and eye claims

In one-year-old mice, epitalon decreased the number of mice bearing malignant tumours and no metastases were found in the treated group, an animal result.[3]

The retina claim rests on Campbell rat experiments plus an abstract-level report of clinical effect in patients with degenerative retinal lesions.[1]

The brain and cognition claim

For the brain claim, the cached evidence is that epitalon raised neuronal differentiation markers in human gingival stem cells in a dish, not that it changed memory or thinking in a person.[10]

A serum-enzyme study found epitalon inhibited enkephalin-degrading enzymes, with an IC50 of 500 micromolar, and no interaction with mu- or delta-opioid receptors in rat brain membranes.[13]

Common questions

Is Epitalon proven to work?

The strongest study we summarise for Epitalon is human rct evidence, among 13 studies. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.

What does epitalon do?

It is a synthetic tetrapeptide of four amino acids, modelled on a pineal gland extract, that has been studied in cells, animals and a few small human reports.[2]

What is epitalon peptide used for?

Published work explores ageing, retina, tumour and neuron-differentiation questions.[2]
