MOTS-c for Liver: What the Evidence Shows
What human and animal studies show about MOTS-c for liver, how strong that evidence is, and what is still unproven.

Evidence for liver
None of the study abstracts we summarised for MOTS-c reported an outcome for liver (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026). Claims that it helps with liver are unproven.
How strong is it?
A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.
What liver means in the MOTS-c context
MedlinePlus says liver disease symptoms vary but often include swelling of the abdomen, and lists viruses, drugs, alcohol and inherited conditions among causes.[7]
How many MOTS-c papers mention liver
A PubMed title-and-abstract search pairing MOTS-c terms with liver terms returned 19 records on 2026-10-29. That is a keyword-match tally for MOTS-c and liver, not a count of positive findings.
Calculated from pubmed query ("MOTS-c"[tiab] OR MOTSc[tiab]) AND (liver[tiab] OR hepat*[tiab] OR steato*[tiab] OR NAFLD[tiab] OR NASH[tiab] OR MASLD[tiab] OR MASH[tiab] OR cirrho*[tiab]); date 2026-10-29; count 19. Formula: record count of the PubMed [tiab] query on the date shown, as logged by the literature ledger; no arithmetic
What the retrieved MOTS-c abstracts say about liver
In a hepatitis B study of healthy subjects and infected patients, MOTS-c levels correlated negatively with HBV DNA; a correlation of this kind does not show a treatment effect.[8]
In the same study's cell and mouse experiments, MOTS-c inhibited hepatitis B virus replication by 50-70% alongside improved liver function without notable toxicity; these are cell and animal results.[8]
In diet-induced obese mice, MOTS-c improved insulin sensitivity and increased fat burning to prevent fat accumulation, a mouse result about fat handling and not liver disease.[9]
A review of exercise-released molecules, MOTS-c among them, proposes that these exerkines may help regulate metabolism; it frames MOTS-c as a candidate and not a liver treatment.[10]

Does MOTS-c help with liver?
None of the studies we summarised for MOTS-c (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026) measured an outcome for liver. Treat claims that it helps with liver as unproven.
Is MOTS-c approved for liver?
No. MOTS-c is not FDA approved for any use, including liver.
What is the best peptide for liver?
There is no single answer. Our liver overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.
Is there research on MOTS-c and liver?
PubMed held 19 records matching the MOTS-c and liver search terms when checked on 2026-10-29; a match is not evidence that MOTS-c helps with liver.
