Evidence for liver
Each row is an outcome related to liver from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.
| Outcome | Result | Study type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hepatic fat fraction | Liver fat fraction fell more with tesamorelin than placebo: absolute -4·1% and relative -37%. | Human RCTn = 61 | The lancet. HIV 2019, PMID 31611038 |
| Normalised liver fat | 35% of tesamorelin patients and 4% of placebo patients had liver fat below 5% at 12 months. | Human RCTn = 61 | The lancet. HIV 2019, PMID 31611038 |

How strong is it?
A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.
The liver in plain terms
MedlinePlus lists steatotic liver disease and cirrhosis as examples of liver diseases caused by drugs, poisons or too much alcohol.[2]
The tesamorelin liver trial
Eligible people had HIV and a hepatic fat fraction of 5% or more, and were randomised to tesamorelin 2 mg once daily or placebo for 12 months.[1]
The trial enrolled 61 patients, 30 on tesamorelin and 30 on placebo.[1]
Tesamorelin lowered hepatic fat fraction by an absolute 4.1% more than placebo, a 37% relative reduction from baseline.[1]
The authors concluded tesamorelin might be beneficial in people with HIV and fatty liver and that effects on liver histology need further study.[1]
The goal ledger's dated PubMed count for tesamorelin with liver-health terms was 15 records tagged human and 1 tagged animal-only.
Calculated from source our PubMed count ledger; goal liver-health; peptide tesamorelin; date 2026-10-02; query (tesamorelin[tiab] OR Egrifta[tiab] OR TH9507[tiab] OR "TH-9507"[tiab]) AND (liver[tiab] OR hepat*[tiab] OR steato*[tiab] OR NAFLD[tiab] OR NASH[tiab] OR MASLD[tiab] OR MASH[tiab] OR cirrho*[tiab]); human filter AND humans[mh]; animal filter AND (animals[mh] NOT humans[mh]); human count 15; animal count 1. Does Tesamorelin help with liver?
The strongest study we summarise for liver is human rct evidence, across 1 study with an outcome for liver. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.
Is Tesamorelin approved for liver?
Tesamorelin is FDA approved (Egrifta). Which conditions that approval covers is set by the label; use for anything else is off-label.
What is the best peptide for liver?
There is no single answer. Our liver overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.
Does tesamorelin help the liver?
In one randomised trial in people with HIV and fatty liver it lowered liver fat; the trial authors call for further study of liver histology.[1]
