What sermorelin is and what it targets
Sermorelin is a 29-amino-acid analogue of human growth hormone-releasing hormone and the shortest synthetic peptide with full GHRH activity.[5]
Intravenous and subcutaneous sermorelin specifically stimulate growth hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary.[5]
What happens in people
In old men, twice-daily GHRH injections evoked dose-related increases in 24-hour GH release and IGF-I, significant at the high dose.[6]
In older men given nightly injections, nocturnal GH release rose but IGF-I, IGFBP-3 and GH binding protein did not.[7]
In growth-hormone-deficient children, daily subcutaneous GHRH raised mean height velocity from 4.1 to 8.0 cm/yr at 6 months.[8]
Timing, limits and what is unknown
Older men took GHRH twice daily for 14 days, with a 14-day break between the low-dose and high-dose courses.[6]
The review notes that the effect of long-term sermorelin on final adult height was yet to be determined.[5]
In children given twice-daily GHRH, anti-GHRH antibodies developed in 14 patients without apparent effects on growth or GH responses.[9]

Common questions
How long does Sermorelin act in the body?
We found no published half-life for Sermorelin (PubMed search, 11 Oct 2026), so how long it acts is unknown.
How does sermorelin work?
It mimics growth hormone-releasing hormone, prompting the pituitary to release growth hormone.[5]
Does sermorelin really work?
In growth-hormone-deficient children, 74% had a good response at 6 months in one open-label study; in healthy older men the studies measured hormone levels rather than clinical benefit.[8]
How long for sermorelin to work?
In children the height-velocity gain was reported at 6 months, and in older men hormone changes were measured after a short course.[8]
