Claim: it causes more weight loss than GLP-1 drugs alone

In the first phase 3 obesity trial without diabetes, 3.6 mg and 6.0 mg groups lost an average of 12.2% and 13.0%, while placebo lost 5.4%.[1]

Against semaglutide the one head-to-head signal is a phase 2 diabetes trial in which survodutide at 1.8 mg a week or more cut weight further.[6]

A pooled analysis counted a weight difference of -8.33 kg and a waist difference of -6.33 cm against control.[9]

Claim: it controls type 2 diabetes

In adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes, HbA1c fell by 0.9 percentage points in the 3.6-mg group and 0.8 in the 6.0-mg group, with 0.2 on placebo.[2]

Pooled across six trials, survodutide lowered fasting glucagon by 7 pmol/L, an average effect of the compound on its second target.[8]

Claim: it reverses fatty liver and MASH

In the phase 2 MASH trial, 62% on the 4.8-mg dose had MASH improve with no worsening of fibrosis, against 14% on placebo.[5]

The SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD authors list the short 48-week duration and the US-and-Spain recruitment as limits.[3]

Claim: it protects the heart and improves metabolism

The nearest cardiometabolic data are pooled lipid and blood-pressure changes described as modest, not outcome counts.[8]

Claims no cached study backs

The 2 Oct 2026 PubMed search for survodutide returned 86 papers in all, 56 of them with a randomized, trial or phase term, and none of the 8 abstracts cached for this page reports a muscle-gain, anti-ageing or sleep outcome.

Common questions

Is Survodutide proven to work?

The strongest study we summarise for Survodutide is human rct evidence, among 9 studies. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.

What does survodutide do?

Survodutide is a glucagon receptor and GLP-1 receptor dual agonist under investigation for obesity and related diseases, according to the SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD report.[3]

What benefits has survodutide shown in trials?

The trial benefits reported are weight, HbA1c and liver-fat changes against placebo, along with a high share of gastrointestinal events.[1]
