Evidence for liver

Each row is an outcome related to liver from a published study, strongest design first. Animal and cell results are labelled and are not human results. User reports are not counted as evidence here.

A human randomized trial outweighs any number of animal studies. Animal and cell results show a mechanism worth testing, not that it works in people.

Liver disease, and the survodutide MASH work

MedlinePlus says imaging tests and liver function tests can check for liver damage and help diagnose liver diseases.[4]

The phase 2 MASH trial gave once-weekly survodutide at 2.4, 4.8 or 6.0 mg or placebo for 48 weeks to adults with biopsy-confirmed MASH and fibrosis stage F1 to F3.[2]

Its registry record has the liver biopsy histology as the primary outcome after 48 weeks.[5]

What the liver results were

MASH improved without worse fibrosis in 47% on 2.4 mg, 62% on 4.8 mg and 43% on 6.0 mg, against 14% on placebo.[2]

Fibrosis improved by at least one stage in 34%, 36% and 34% of the three survodutide groups, against 22% on placebo.[2]

In the phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD trial of survodutide 6.0 mg, 84.2% had a liver fat fall of at least 30% against 24.3% on placebo (efficacy estimand).[1]

The first phase 3 obesity trial registered liver fat relative change at week 76 as a secondary outcome.[6]

Cirrhosis and other liver-specific safety points

In people with cirrhosis, a phase 1 trial found survodutide generally tolerable and not needing pharmacokinetic-related dose adjustment.[3]

Drug-related adverse events in that cirrhosis trial's multiple-dose cohorts were 82.4% in healthy individuals and 87.5% in people with cirrhosis over 28 weeks.[3]

In the MASH trial, nausea was reported by 66% against 23%, diarrhea by 49% against 23% and vomiting by 41% against 4% (survodutide versus placebo).[2]

Common questions

Does Survodutide help with liver?

The strongest study we summarise for liver is human rct evidence, across 3 studies with an outcome for liver. A trial result is not an approval; see the legal status.

Is Survodutide approved for liver?

No. Survodutide is not FDA approved for any use, including liver.

What is the best peptide for liver?

There is no single answer. Our liver overview compares each candidate by evidence grade and legal status rather than by popularity.

Does survodutide help fatty liver or MASH?

In the phase 2 MASH trial, MASH improved without worsening fibrosis in a higher share of survodutide groups than placebo, and the authors called for phase 3 trials.[2]

Is survodutide safe in cirrhosis?

A phase 1 trial found it generally tolerable in compensated or decompensated cirrhosis, while calling for more study in MASH-related cirrhosis.[3]
