Does sermorelin work?

It depends on the outcome: in children with growth hormone deficiency, daily sermorelin-type GHRH roughly doubled height velocity in an open-label trial with no control group.

GHRH analogUpdated

Short answer

It depends on the outcome: in children with growth hormone deficiency, daily sermorelin-type GHRH roughly doubled height velocity in an open-label trial with no control group.[1]

In healthy older men, twice-daily GHRH injections over a short period brought growth hormone and IGF-I levels to those of young men; the authors only suggest that longer treatment could change body composition.[2]

In older men given GHRH nightly for a short course, nocturnal growth hormone release rose but weight, BMI and DEXA fat and muscle did not change.[3]

What the evidence does not show

A review of the sermorelin trials notes sermorelin has not been compared head to head with somatropin, and that its height-velocity gains in children were smaller than those on somatropin.[4]

Common questions

Does sermorelin work for adults?

The adult studies cited are small and in men, and they reported hormone changes with mixed functional results.[3]
